When Tom met Sam: A love story? Part I   Leave a comment

Samantha had been on the ANON app off and on for years. Before the newer version you could make a post and no one bothered you, then they added an inbox where people could chat with you if you wanted.  It had turned into a type of dating and/or hook up app.  She just went there to post things she wouldn’t say on her other social media pages without having to hurt someone’s feelings or explain herself.  Now, every time she made a post or commented on someone else’s post she would get a bunch of inboxes from random guys wanting to “get to know you more better” or looking for a sugar baby.  However, every once in a while she would find one that just wanted to talk and since it was an anonymous app you had to exchange pictures and a lot of times the guys would be too young, not interested in Black women or just looking to get their dicks wet. A lot of married men — that claim to not be happy in their marriage– looking to have an affair, which Samantha wanted no parts in.

After having commented on someone else’s post one day, Samantha received another volley of inbox messages from anonymous people.  She ignored most but she started talking to one of them because the conversation was innocent enough.

He introduced himself as Thomas.  She gave her standard introduction as “just call me S.”  She never gave out her name because she just never felt that it was necessary to give it since the conversations typically ended with the end of conversations or the random unsolicited dick picture or the conversation dried up.

Samantha asked Thomas to send her a photo and she would do the same.  When he sent his photo, her mouth fell open.  He was so cute!  Her first thought was “this guy cannot be real.”  She sent him her standard photo.  He complimented her on how pretty she looked and she told him he was handsome (while thinking “OMG he is FINE as hell there is NO way, he can be real! He’s probably a scammer and stole someone else’s photo).

But something in her knew that he wasn’t a scammer.  He was not giving the typical clues that let you know they are not who they say.  You know the ones, bad English, “know you more better,” the long missives about what he owns, what he does, what he likes to do, things like that.  He spoke normally like English was his first language.  Even though he took shortcuts, that she found cute and funny like instead of saying “it is what it is” he would say “it’s what it’s” in a type of short hand.  She would laugh every time he did it.

After exchanging photos and more conversation, Samantha decided to give him her Google number to text her since it was easier to talk that way than through the app which didn’t always give her notifications in a timely manner.

After that first day Samantha figured he probably wouldn’t text her but then he sent her another message on the ANON app and she gave him her number again, citing that it was easier to talk that way because she would get the  notifications instantly.  This time he sent her a text and asked her if she was happy that he texted her.  She was.   Plus she was a little surprised that he actually texted her because guys usually text her immediately when she gives that number.
